The project

The new PalaUnisannio is a multi-purpose building constructed from scratch on the site of a former structure within the university campus. The building consists of a single two-storey structure. The ground floor houses a large gymnasium, while the upper floor contains spacious rooms for teaching activities and laboratories dedicated to Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Measurements and Automation. A roof terrace completes the building.

The intervention

The new building was constructed using three different construction systems: pre-stressed reinforced concrete, a metal structure and a section of cast-in-place reinforced concrete. The external infill walls are made of plastered brick. Although the project involved demolition and reconstruction, and therefore did not require NZeB standards, the design team nevertheless pursued a high level of energy efficiency, together with excellent fire resistance, in line with the building’s public function. To meet these objectives, the designer opted for a ventilated façade system using Isotec Parete Black panels. Installation was carried out between January and April by a team of four workers and covered approximately 1,600 sqm of vertical surface area. Particular attention was given to site preparation, supported by the technical assistance of the Brianza Plastica representative, who provided targeted on-site consultations and guidance throughout the installation process. The Isotec Parete Black System was combined with stoneware cladding in two different formats: 60×120 cm in beige and 20×60 cm in terracotta.

The result

Following a simple installation process, the installers created a clean, linear façade, perfectly coordinated with the architectural design and the aesthetics of the surrounding buildings clad in clinker and stoneware. With an A1 energy certification, the building immediately demonstrated excellent perceived indoor thermal comfort, with a favourable temperature differential between indoor and outdoor environments, both during hot days and in the colder months of subsequent use.
