The project

The new SKI TRAB building, developed for the historic Bormio-based company specialising in technical equipment for ski mountaineering, is intended to accommodate production areas, company offices, and a ski museum. It comprises several adjoining buildings characterised by large sheds inspired by the peaks of the surrounding mountains. The prefabricated structure consists of reinforced concrete columns and infill panels, supporting a laminated wood roof structure.

The intervention

A ventilated façade system made with Isotec Parete was selected for the thermal insulation of the opaque vertical envelope, which is particularly exposed to the harsh winter climate typical of mountain areas. This solution was chosen for its versatility and speed of installation, as it allows, in a single installation phase, the creation of a high-performance continuous thermal insulation layer, along with the ventilation cavity and the substructure required to fix the cladding. Isotec Parete panels, with a thickness of 120 mm and a pitch of 600 mm, were dry-installed using mechanical fixings over more than 1,000 sqm of reinforced concrete façades. To create the original standing-seam metal cladding, selected in three nature-inspired colours (brown, dark brown and black), OSB panels were fixed to the Isotec Parete metal stiffeners, creating a continuous substrate suitable for the subsequent stapled fixing of the aluminium sheets.

The final result

The waterproof nature of the panels—insensitive to humidity and protected by an embossed aluminium coating—combined with the system’s dry installation, played a key role in optimising construction times, enabling uninterrupted work during the winter months, even in rain, snow and low temperatures. Upon completion, the building stands out for its distinctive and refined architectural appearance, seamlessly integrated into the landscape, and for the excellent energy performance of its envelope, which enabled it to achieve an A3 energy efficiency rating.
